[Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] Running generators in parallel.-An auxiliary armature is connected through rectifiers with the field winding of a shunt wound main generator, the auxiliary armature co-operating with a field winding excited in proportion to the load of the main machine. In the form shown, two such main machines A with shunt windings 4 and auxiliary armatures B feed ring mains 6, 7 in parallel and an equaliser connection 8, 9 ensures that the load is shared equally. Each auxiliary armature B may have a shunt winding as well as the winding 1 in series with the main armature. The rectifiers 2 ensure that winding 4 is adequately excited in the right sense even if the prime mover breaks down and the main machine tends to run as a motor.
