Abstract
540,586. Exciting dynamo-electric machines. MAWDSLEY'S, Ltd., and JONES, N. W. May 7, 1940, No. 8212. [Class 35] In a machine in which the excitation is derived from a shunt or compound wound exciter and in which a main field regulator is in series with the armature of the exciter a rectifying device is arranged in circuit with the exciter-shunt winding so as to prevent a demagnetising-current from flowing through it when the regulator Ýs quickly inserted to shut down the machine. Fig. 1 shows such a machine 1 with a main field winding 4 a main regulating resistance 8 and an exciter 2 having a shunt field-winding. A metal oxide rectifier 9 is connected in series with the winding of the machine armature so as only to pass current in the direction for normal operation of the machine. In a modification the rectifier is in parallel with the winding 7 so as to byepass reverse current.
