Abstract

1,060,628. Dynamo - electric machines. MANUFACTURE DE VILEBREQUINS DE LORETTE-MAVILOR. Dec. 14, 1964 [Dec. 13, 1963; Oct. 30, 1964], No. 50924/64. Heading H2A. [Also in Division G3] A dynamo-electric machine, e.g. motor required to operate over a wide speed range in driving, e.g. machine tool spindles, household apparatus, typewriters, and calculating machines, comprises a sleeve 3 fast with and disposed coaxially within a frusto-conical rotor portion 1 of synthetic, e.g. moulded epoxy resin in which are embedded rotor windings 2 electrically connected to commutator blades 5 embedded in resin 6 integral with the rotor portion, a stator portion 9 which surrounds the rotor portion carries commutator brushgear and has magnetic field producing means, and a magnetic member 11 coaxial with the rotor portion at that side remote from the stator portion and providing with the latter a magnetic circuit through the rotor windings. The sleeve 3 may be integrally moulded with the portion 1 or of metal secured at grooves 74, and convey the output torque to a driven spindle passing through it. The member 11 shown is freely mounted on the sleeve 3, but alternatively may be fixed either to the stator housing 7 by an end wall or to the rotor A in which ease it is of laminated iron. The field producing means may comprise, in Fig. 5 (not shown), permanent magnets (10) and pole shoes (21) embedded in a resin mass (22) having longitudinal channels (23) to receive magnetizing filaments and a speed-controlling auxiliary winding, or in Fig. 7 U-shaped folded, profiled or sintered plates (9) having coils (9 2 ). The moulding of the rotor portion may have a strengthening ring 13 and integral fan blades (37) Fig. 10. For the cylindrical commutator 4 shown brushes 29 are urged by springs 30 on a wall 24 which is angularly adjustable, but for the radial commutator (55) of Fig. 7, not shown, the whole brushgear is removably carried on a moulded slide (66) mounted in vertical slideways (63b) and comprising four brushes (67) urged axially with an adjustable pressure by springs (68), and interconnecting leads 71 and blade terminals 74. The air gap may be adjusted by longitudinally displacing the rotor.
