Abstract

103,766. Marden, W. June 30, 1916. Homopolar or acyclic machines; exciting.-The field-magnet winding k of a turbo-alternator &c. is connected to a homonolar exciter c on the shaft b of the main machine. The armature bars g of the machine c are connected in parallel between a slip-ring i insulated from the shaft b and a ring h in metallic connexion with the shaft. The terminals of the winding k are connected respectively to an insulated slip-ring and to the shaft b, and a conducting-connexion is made by brushes i<1>, j<1> between the slip-rings i, j, the shaft forming the other connexion. The field-magnet winding d of the homopolar machine is connected in shunt between the shaft b and the brush i'. The armature of the homopolar machine may be of the disk type. The armature winding may comprise groups of bars connected in series by means of slip-rings and brushes. Instead of using the shaft as conductor between the ring h and the winding k, these may be connected by a conductor carried along or within the spindle.
