Abstract
218,344. Donnithorne, H. E. Nov. 2, 1923. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Commutator switching-arrangements.-In highvoltage polyphase rectifiers, the positive and negative rotary collecting points are carried by substantially radial arms on mountings which are spaced apart a substantial distance in the axial direction. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the star-connected secondary windings of a highvoltage transformer are connected to conducting- members A - - C, each of which comprises a pair of segments connected together by a bar parallel to the synchronously-driven shaft F carrying the collector arms D, E. In a modification, Fig. 2, two pairs of collectors D, E are carried by an insulating disc mounted on the shaft F, the collectors being connected, as shown, to mountings spaced a considerable distance apart. Another arrangement, providing multiple gaps in series, is shown in Fig. 3. In this arrangement the transformer windings are connected to segments A - - C, and these are periodically connected to H-shaped segments a - - c by connecting members d, e on an insulating drum mounted on the shaft F. The pulsations in the direct current may be reduced by flattening the wave tops of the currents supplied to the rectifier. For very high voltages, several rectifiers may be arranged in series.
