Abstract

418,140. Electric influence machines. LANDWERLIN, G., Les Ombrages, Avenue La BruyÞre, Marly le Roi, Seine-et-Oise, France. April 20, 1933, Nos. 11544 and 11545. Convention dates, May 6, 1932 and Dec. 9, 1932. [Class 35.] The stator of a continuous-current electrostatic motor or generator comprises two units, each consisting of alternately arranged inductor poles and discharge poles of opposite sign, all the inductor poles in a unit being of the same sign as all the discharge poles in the other unit, whilst the rotor which may consist of one or two units, comprises rows of charge carriers located in parallel rows along the axis. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the stator unit IA consists of two negative inductors I, I<1> separated by a pair of positive discharge poles (not shown) whilst unit IIB consists of a pair of negative discharge poles and two positive inductors I<11>, I<2>, some or all of the discharge poles being connected to the machine terminals. The stator poles are similar in construction and each consists of a row of metal vanes between which the rotor carriers SS<1> pass, the vanes being insulated on the surfaces remote from the carriers. The rotor carriers S, S<1>, which preferably are coated with insulation q, are arranged in parallel rows of rings, each ring being as shown in Fig. 3, and the rings are held in spaced relationship by insulated bars g which terminate in shielded contacts p<1>, p engaging conducting segments m<1>, m<2>, n<1>, n<2> on the stator. The segments ml, m<2> of the two units are connected together but the segments n<1>, n<2> are connected to the adjacent discharge poles, whilst all the segments may have insulated metal screens. Instead of the two stator units being axially displaced, they may be in the same radial plane but on opposite sides of a diameter, and in this case they co-operate with a single rotor unit. The machine may operate in a vacuum. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a statement that the poles may rotate and that the charge carriers may be stationary. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
