425,837. Production of high voltages. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin) Sept. 22, 1933, No. 26194. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1932. [Class 38 (iv)] An arrangement for producing a high unidirectional voltage comprises a moving endless insulating band or wheel 5 carrying condensers 6 which are charged individually from one or more D.C. sources 2, 10 and are discharged in series through the load circuit 11. The negative pole of the source 2 may be earthed and the positive pole of source 10 may be connected to the charge collector 9 when the source 10 may be supplied from a D.C. generator driven by the band 5 through the wheel 4 the band 5 being driven through the wheel 3. To avoid the energy losses caused by reversal of the polarity of the condensers when passing the source 10, switching devices, which may operate by gravity, may be arranged to -reverse the condenser connections, Fig. 4, (not shown), at this point. If the condensers 6 are not arranged along the whole of the band or wheel 5 the apparatus produces recurring impulses of unidirectional high voltage. Auxiliary devices such as choking coils, condensers or resistances may be provided to suppress electric oscillations. The Specification gives dimensions of an apparatus of this type for obtaining a particular voltage. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 stated that charging could be effected using an A.C. source. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
