Abstract
148,995. Latour, M. Dec. 16, 1918, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Thermionic relays and repeaters.-Relates to a thermionic tube system intended to create the effect of a negative resistance. The plate circuit of the tube 1 comprises two batteries 3, 5, and .a resistance 12, and the voltage of the battery 5 is arranged to compensate normally for the drop of potential between the terminals 10, 11 of the resistance 12 so that normally the voltage between the terminals is zero. The two batteries 4, 6 and the resistance 15 are similarly connected in the plate circuit of the tube 2 so that the voltage between terminals 13, 14 of the resistance 15 is zero. If a current (value i) flows through imped- .ance 9 (value z) it produces a voltage z i between the grid and filament of tube 1, and it is stated that this voltage, successively amplified by the two tubes 1, 2, results in producing the equivalent of a negative resistance between the terminals 13, 14. This negative resistance may be obtained of any desired value by making impedance 9 of a suitable value and any desired number of pairs of tubes may be used. The device may be inserted in a telephone line to balance the impedance of the line.
