Abstract

837,958. Charging and discharging capacitors. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 10, 1958 [Sept. 13, 1957], No. 28909/57. Class 38 (4). In a multi-stage high-voltage generator comprising capacitors Cl which are charged in parallel through resistors RC1, R2 and discharged in series by means of spark gaps, a pair of spark gaps G1, G2 are connected in series with a wave tail resistor RT1 across each capacitor, the junction point X of gap G1 and resistor RT1 of the first stage being connected to earth, and the capacitor terminals are connected to a supply respectively above and below earth potential. The junction N may be connected either directly or through a resistor RS to the gap G1 of the second stage, and similarly with subsequent stages. The spark gaps may be positioned in a tubular member substantially free from atmospheric dust, which tube may be fed with filtered air.
