Abstract

897,890. Pulse generating circuits. BARDOCZ, A. June 16, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 20650/59. Class 40(6). [Also in Groups XX and XL(b)] A capacitor C is periodically discharged through a main spark gap A which is used as a light source in a spectroscope (see Group XL(b)) by means of auxiliary spark gaps G1, G2 and a thyratron V3. The capacitor C is charged from an A.C. supply by means of a full-wave rectifier V1, V2. Each discharge is initiated by a positive pulse applied through an amplifier IG to the thyratron V3. When the thyratron V3 fires, the voltage across the capacitor C fires the auxiliary spark gap G1 and initiates the discharge of C via L2, R3, R5, G1, R4 and V3. Substantially all the voltage across the capacitor C now appears across the resistors R5 and R4 and since R5 is much greater than R4 the main gap A fires. The voltage across C now appears across R4 and fires the auxiliary spark gap G2 so that the capacitor C completes its discharge via L2, R3, A, G1, G2 as shown by the thick line. The timing of the discharge may be controlled by an adjustable delay line or circuit in the input to the amplifier IG.
