Abstract

PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain uniform electric discharge characteristics by so constituting a charger as to ground its shield through a rectifying element. CONSTITUTION:A rectifying element 5 grounding a shield 2a is provided, so that only the flow from the shield 2a side to earth 6 side is permitted. Then, electric discharge current is generated by a high voltage electric power source 3 applied to the metallic wire 4 in the shield 2 and flows to photoreceptor 1 side and the photoreceptor 1 is charged by the discharge current during a positive half cycle. Part thereof flows through the shield 2a and the element 5 to the earth 6 side. In the next negative half cycle, the shield 2a is charged and therefore the negative charge flows more to the photoreceptor 1 side than to the shield 2a side, thus the photoreceptor is now charged by the negative potential. With such constitution, the discharge current is uniformalized without using any DC electric power source.
