Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a corona discharger which applies uniform electric charge suited for development by changing over the polarity of the bias voltage to be applied to grids so that the toner may be charged to the opposite polarity.
CONSTITUTION: A corona discharger 16 for toner charging is constituted by a width l1, a depth l2 and the spacing d1 between grids and a sleeve, the spacing d2 between the grids. A discharge electrode 17 comprises a gold plated tungsten wire or the like and the grids 18 likewise comprising gold plated tungsten wires or the like are provided in an arc shape by maintaining a spacing along the magnetic toner 15 on the sleeve surface. Further, an AC corona discharging power source 19, a grid bias power source 20 and a toner charging polarity change-over switch 21 are provided so that the positive and negative of the grid bias power source is changed over. Thereby, the stable charging of a fixed amount to the toner may be performed.
