Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the charging efficiency and to facilitate the control of potential, by applying different levels of potential to the two grid parts which are electrically separated fro the grid of a corona charger along the travelling direction of a charge holder. CONSTITUTION:For a corona charger 1, two pieces of corona wires 12 are stretched inside a masking matter 11, and the 1st and 2nd grid parts 13 and 14 are provided at the lower aperture part of the matter 11. A high level of potential is applied to the wire 12 from a DC power supply 2. The potential of the part 13 is set so that the ion current flowing to a charge holder 3 increases; and the potential of the part 14 is set at the target value of potential to be charged on the surface of the holder 3. In such way, the charging efficiency is increased. At the same time, the control is facilitated for the potential.
