Abstract
248,197. Chaix, L. G., and Chaix, E. L. April 6, 1925. Commutator switching - arrangements.-To prevent sparking resulting from uneven wear of the conducting and spacing segments in commutator switching devices for rectifying alternating current, the leading edges of the spacing segments 16 are bevelled off to enable the brushes to pass smoothly from the conducting segments 11 when the latter have been worn in use. The segments, insulated by mica 17, are clamped by a nut 19 between internally-projecting flanges 15 provided respectively on a bush 12 and ring 14 mounted on the extended spindle of a synchronous motor connected to the source of alternating current to be rectified. The current may be supplied to the brushes 20 - - 23 through a transformer 25 from the middle point of the secondary of which a tapping may be taken to enable batteries of different voltages to be charged by connecting them as shown.
