Current meters; power meters.- The current or power at any point in an alternating current power system is indicated at a central control station by means of a current transformer having an air-gap 3 in its iron core 4, a rectifier for the current induced in the secondary winding 2, and pilot leads 5 for transmitting the rectified current to a moving-coil direct-current indicating instrument 6 at the control station. The rectifier may be of the kind known under the Registered Trade Mark " Tungar " or may consist of vacuum valves 7, Fig. 1, arranged in parallel, in which case the instrument 6 indicates the current at the selected point. In a modification, Fig. 2, the rectifier consists of a commutator 8 driven by a synchronous motor 9 which derives its power from a potential transformer. In this case, since the position of the commutator is definitely related to the phase of the voltage of the system, the resulting rectified current has a value depending on the phase of the current, enabling the instrument 6 to indicate power.
