Abstract

201,353. Sweetland, E. J. June 19, 1922. Recovering waste lubricants.-Oil circulating in the lubrication system of an internal-combustion engine is freed from water and light spirit by passage through a spherical vessel 7 heated by exhaust gases passing through a jacket 9, and admitted from the exhaust pipe 5 through a valve 33 adapted to be operated simultaneously with the throttle so that the valve becomes partially closed when the throttle is opened. The control valve 33 may be placed in the exit pipe 31. The vessel 7 has an inlet 11 and outlet 13 for the oil and an outlet 19 for the vapours. The vessel may be fitted with a hollow extension with heat-absorbing fins projecting into the exhaust pipe 5, and the oil may be supplied to the vessel through the lower end of this extension.
