Abstract
330,963. Triggs, W. W., (Northwest Engineering Co.). March 19, 1929. Recovering waste lubricants. - Fuel diluents are removed from the lubricating oil of internal combustion engines, by passing the oil through a heated chamber where it is subjected to a stream of air which carries off the vaporized fuel to the engine intake. In a suitable apparatus, oil is withdrawn from the crank case and is passed by a pump 8, Fig. 1, through a pipe 26 to a chamber 10 supported on, and heated by the exhaust manifold 11, said chamber having spaced ribs 15, over which the oil flows. Air is drawn through the jacket 16, surrounding the exhaust pipe 17, and passes through a pipe 19, connected to the upper part of the chamber 10. The oil is caused to flow through the chamber 10 under constant gravity head, by passing the oil leaving the top of the tube 26 through two orifices 27 and 29. Fig. 3, in the fitting 30 so that the excess of oil passing through the orifice 29 over that discharged by the orifice 29 into the chamber 10, overflows through holes 31 and is by-passed up through a tube 32 and pipes 34 and 36 to the crank case. The treated oil leaves the chamber 10, through a T-piece 35, and joins the overflow oil in the pipe 36.
