Abstract

<PICT:0371131/III/1> An apparatus for purifying lubricating oil in the crank case of an internal-combustion engine, consists of a chamber connected at the upper end to a suction pipe, and containing baffle-plates over which air and vapours drawn from the crank case pass, the chamber having at its lower end a receptacle in which condensed water and volatile impurities collect. Crank-case vapours are drawn by suction through a ventilating pipe 1 and pass through holes 9 into a chamber 4, having cooling fins 5, and containing conical baffles 6. The vapours rise through holes 6<1> in the baffles and condense to a liquid which falls through a pipe 10 into the collecting chamber 11. Suction is controlled by a butterfly valve 14 mounted in the outlet 13 which is connected to the intake of the carburetter.
