Abstract

473,483. Cooling systems. ELLOR, J. E., and PARAVICINI, T. P. DE. April 8, 1936, No. 10369. [Class 29] In a cooling system for an internal-combustion engine having a header A into which flows the liquid from the cylinder jackets either the whole or a part of the liquid stream is directed into the outlet pipe C after the separation of vapour therefrom. Thus, the liquid may flow into the header through pipes A<1> connected to a common pipe having a bend B<1>, the inside of which is perforated to facilitate separation of the vapour, and extending into the outlet pipe. Liquid flowing through the perforations falls into a perforate tray D which effects further separation of vapour therefrom. In a modification, the pipes A<1> are provided with vertical legs E, Fig. 4, having flat orifices E<1> through which the separated vapour rises into the upper part of the header. Baffles E<2> are provided in the pipes to effect the separation.
