Abstract

288,740. Ward, J. T. H. Jan. 21, 1927. Separators.- Apparatus particularly applicable for separating water from steam or for separating unatomized liquid fuel from the gaseous fuel supply to an internal-combustion engine comprises a chamber having a baffle b<1>, Fig. 1, at its inlet B to deflect the incoming mixture against a curved surface a<1> on the opposite side of the chamber, and a pocket a<2> in which separated liquid collects, the pocket being drained by a pipe d<1> extending across the vapour outlet to a liquid discharge passage D. The chamber is made in two parts formed with faced flanges and secured together by bolts. The vapour outlet C may be in alignment with the inlet B and baffles may project from the sides of the chamber to form additional pockets which drain into the pocket a<2> carrying the pipe d<1> or drain directly into the discharge passage D. In apparatus particularly intended for drying wet steam from a boiler, the mixture entering the apparatus by opening B', Fig. 7, passes downwards and upwards through an outer chamber E<3>, in which the bulk of the water is separated, before being deflected by the baffle b<1> against the curved surface a<1>. The pipe d<1> draining the pocket a<2> opens into a pipe d<2> extending across the outer chamber and discharging into the liquid discharge passage D<2>. The apparatus is formed of three castings having faced flanges with holes for receiving bolts securing the castings together.
