Abstract

Separators.-Steam passes downwards through tubes D, Figs. 1, 2 and 4, projecting through openings a<3> in the top of a chamber C having inclined surfaces which intercept water and impurities and direct them to a bottom outlet, the cleansed steam flowing upwards through the spaces between the tubes and the edges of the openings a<3> to an outlet a. Two separators A, Figs. 1 and 2, in the steam space of a boiler have a common outlet opening into the boiler steam outlet b. The casings around the tubes are formed with vertical rims a<2> to ensure that steam is drawn from the top of the boiler. The tubes are contracted at their lower ends. Separated water and impurities collect in receptacles c<2>. In a modification, the separator is made up of two, preferably circular, castings which are bolted together, the top casting carrying the tubes and the bottom casting the inclined baffling surfaces. A separator, fitted on the steam pipe outside a boiler consists of a casing A, Fig. 4, formed with inlet and outlet openings b, b<2> and containing a cast tubular passage A<3> having flanges carrying the tubes D. In a modification, a stop valve is fitted at the top of the tubular inlet passage, which is formed in one with the casing.
