Abstract

15,315. Parker, T. T. July 2, 1910, [Convention date]. Vertical boilers; partitions in water space; sediment - collectors.- Relates to vertical boilers of the fire-tube type having a sedimentchamber of relatively large capacity which wholly or partly surrounds the tubes, as described, for instance, in Specification 13,556/11, and consists in means for securing a tortuous course for the feedwater passing through the chamber. In the form illustrated, an annul a r chamber F, located as described in the above - mentioned Specification, is prov i d e d with vertical baffles L, L', to secure the tortuous course, the feed-water which enters through an inlet H. dividing and flowing round opposite sides of the chamber to a delivery slot J, which may be provided with a hood. Oils and flocculent substances are trapped in the chamber between the tops of the baffles L. Blow-off pipes M, M<1> and handholes adjacent thereto are provided for the removal of the sediment. In a modification, the tortuous course is secured by horizontal baffles which divide the chamber into superposed compartments, the feed-water passing upwards from one compartment to another through short depending tubes arranged alternately at opposite sides of the boiler. Oils and flocculent substances are thus trapped in each compartment above the mouth of the depending tube. Each compartment preferably has a blow-off pipe and hand-hole.
