[Class 29] A branch circuit for cooling-liquid is provided through the jacket of an engine b from a main circuit a, d, which may be an open flow of sea water to waste or a closed circuit including a radiator, by means of a fitting c which has a through passage for the main stream of liquid and two lateral branches connected respectively to the bottom and top of the jacket. The fitting may have a fixed or adjustable baffle f, Fig. 3, or a conical lift valve, to modify the flow of the main stream. The fitting in a circuit including a radiator, Fig. 9, may have a dip 11 in the branch pipe B to the top of the jacket, and baffles may be fitted in this branch between the jacket and the dip. The circuit through the radiator may include a circulating pump, the flow through the branch circuit being always by thermosiphon action.
