Abstract

1,192,847. Oil coolers for liquid-cooled engines. MODINE MFG. CO. 11 Nov., 1968 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 53292/68. Heading F4S. An oil cooling chamber is incorporated in a liquid container such as one of the header tanks of an engine coolant radiator. Said chamber is preferably incorporated in the lower tank of the radiator and, as shown in Fig. 3, may comprise an enclosure member 22 attached to the header wall 18. Alternatively as shown in Fig. 4 the chamber 117 may comprise a recess in the tank wall covered by a plate member e.g. 122. Other forms of recess or enclosure member are described (Figs. 6-8, not shown). A heatconducting fin, e.g. 26 or 126 subdivides the oil chamber into parallel flow passages, and the chamber is provided with an inlet and an outlet for the oil, only the inlet connection 23 being indicated. Fig 4 shows an oil conduit 25 from the engine attached to the inlet conduit.
