Abstract

411,950. Cooling cylinders. ELLOR, J. E., Grandell, South Drive, Chain Lane, Mickleover, Derby. Jan. 5, 1933, No. 385. [Class 7 (ii).] In an evaporative cooling system in which liquid is circulated through the cylinder jackets and piping a<5>, a<2> by a pump a<3>, and vapour is collected in a dome a<6> and conveyed to a condenser b, the condensate is returned by an injector e in a subsidiary cooling-liquid circuit comprised by piping c, c<1>. This circuit also includes two coolers d, formed as narrow rectangular vessels extending in the direction of flight, from which the liquid passes by a pipe d<1> to the injector nozzle f submerged in the condensate, the apparatus being connected by a flexible connection f<3> to the pipe c<1>. The condensate flows, when the temperature is sufficiently high to influence a bi-metallic strip j<1> to open a valve h, to a further pair of coolers g<2> also formed as narrow rectangular vessels and connected to the coolers d by fins i, and past a non-return valve h<1> to the chamber surrounding the nozzle f.
