481,755. Radiators for aircraft. ROBERTSON, J. H. Oct. 8, 1936, No. 27336. [Class 29] An air-cooled oil cooler for aircraft engines comprises groups of tubes a ... f connected between headers and through which the oil normally flows in series from an inlet o to an outlet p. The tubes of the group f are larger than those of the other groups and preferably of oval or streamline cross-section, and oil may be byepassed through the group f directly from the inlet to the outlet by a pressure relief valve k. The air flows laterally across the tubes from left to right and is thus heated by the tube group f before passing over the other groups of smaller tubes. This tends to prevent congelation of oil in the latter groups. Specification 467,420 is referred to.
