Abstract
533,767. Oil coolers. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and GARNER, E. Nov. 24, 1939, No. 30752. [Class 64 (iii)] In an oil cooler intended particularly for use on aircraft and of the kind in which the oil flows over tubes through which air or other coolant passes, the oil flows first over a central group of tubes b and then passes around partitions e and over side tube groups c. When the oil is cold, it passes under the control of a spring-pressed or thermostatically operated relief valve r in the outlet k directly from the central tube group to the outlet through an annular passage n. The oil may be directed in a longitudinal or transverse sinuous course over the side groups by baffles f, and it may flow through the side groups in series or in parallel. Pairs of coolers may be connected in series, and a further relief valve may be provided to connect the inlet of the first cooler and the outlet of the second.
