Abstract

500,389. Plate heat exchangers. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., and LUCY, B. Nov. 16, 1937, No. 31504. [Class 64 (iii)] A heat-exchanger comprises a cylinder 1 along the inner surface of which heating or cooling fluid flows from an inlet 10 to an outlet 11 in a cap carrying a cylindrical baffle 9, and a casing 2 having an inlet 6 and an outlet 8 for the fluid to be heated or cooled, the annular spaces between the cylinder and the baffle and the casing being provided respectively with channels 13 and baffles 3 and heat-exchange fins 4. The adjacent baffles, which are preferably of the form shown in Fig. 4, are arranged with their flats oppositely disposed so that the fluid to be heated or cooled flows in a zigzag circumferential path through the annular space. The fins are formed with pairs of oppositely disposed flats and divide the fluid flowing between the baffles into separate streams. The baffles and fins maybe loosely threaded on the cylinder 1 or secured thereto.
