575,814. Tubular heat-exchangers. AKTGES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. April 11, 1944, No. 6649. Convention date, April 12, 1943. [Class 64 (iii)] The tubes of a heatexchanger are divided into two groups by a central longitudinal partition 7, Figs. 1, 3, and provided with baffles 8, 9 threaded over the tubes and forming oppositely-inclined channels on opposite sides of the partition, the channels on one side communicating through gaps 10 in the partition with those on the opposite side. Thus, zig-zag paths through the exchanger are provided for one of the heat exchange fluids which flows in two streams alternately from one side to the other of the partition from the inlet 4 to the outlet 5. The baffles may be screwed in position by welding &c. to some of the tubes. In a modification, the tubes are disposed in open-ended casings 19, 22, Figs. 4, 5, having partitions 26, 29, and are provided with baffles 31 forming the channels on opposite sides of the partitions. One of the fluids flows from a heater 15 through the tubes to an outlet heater 16, while the other flows from an inlet 13 through the casings to the outlet 14.
