Class 64(3) In gas heating or cooling apparatus in which a heating or cooling medium flows through series-connected tubes 1 extending at right angles to the direction of gas flow, one or more partitions 9 divide the gas to be heated or cooled, preferably air, into separate streams flowing in parallel paths and in each path the heat exchange surface area differs from that in the other path or paths. Hence, the streams leave the apparatus each at a different temperatures and each is directed as required e.g. to a different part of a building. In the form shown, the difference in the heat exchange surface area between paths B and C is effected by arranging some of the tubes 1 to extend only across path B. In a further form described, all the tubes extend across both gas paths B and C but fins provided on the tubes are either omitted from some of the tube surface in path B or are of less surface area than are the fins in path C. The general flow of the heat exchanging media is in countercurrent. It is stated that means may also be provided to cause the mean gas speed in the respective gas paths, e.g. B and C, to be different.
