Abstract

1331202 Tubular heat exchangers SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN AB 20 Jan 1972 [26 Jan 1971] 2843/72 Heading F4S In a shell and tube heat exchanger, heating fluid entering a distribution chamber 3 via an inlet 4 in vapour form, passes through a plurality of pipes 2 and back along finned return pipes 20 before leaving as condensate through an outlet 6 in the bottom of a collection chamber 5. Openended tubes 7 surround the return pipes 20 and are arranged in two groups separated by an annular region 8, opposite ends of the tube groups opening into chambers 10 and 11 which are interconnected by a central tube 13. In use the fluid to be heated, e.g. oil, enters the heat exchanger through an inlet 14 into the annular space 8 where it divides into two parallel streams and passes through the passages defined between the tubes 7 and pipes 20. Heated oil collected in chamber 10 is led into chamber 11 via the central tube 13, the combined heated oil streams leaving chamber 11 by way of outlet 12. The combined streams may be passed through an additional heat exchanger part (16, Figs. 4 and 5) enclosed within the shell for further heating. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) wherein a portion of the heat exchanger projects into an oil tank, the direction of flow of the oil to be heated through the heat exchanger is in the reverse direction to that shown in Fig. 1 above.
