Abstract

750,729. Tubular heat-exchangers. AKT.- GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. April 13, 1954 [May 8, 1953], No. 10852/54. Class 64(3). Relates to heat exchange apparatus in which the heat exchanging fluids flow in parallel paths and comprising a substantially cylindrical casing 2 surrounding a bundle of heat exchange tubes 1 which extend axially of the casing and are spaced apart over substantially the entire cross-sectional area of the casing. According to the invention, the tubes 2 are at one or both ends joined to connecting tubes 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, these latter tubes being arranged in at least three groups 9, 91 of sector formation, the individual groups communicating with an annular header 3 or 3<SP>1</SP> arranged coaxially of the apparatus. Unions 7, 7<SP>1</SP> or 18 connecting the tube groups to the header may be arranged along the header periphery, Fig. 1, or around the casing, Fig. 4, in which latter case connecting pieces 20 are required. The casing may be heat insulated as shown in Fig. 4. The heat exchanger tubes may each be provided internally and externally with fins 4, 5, Fig. 3, and internally also a central core 6. The annular headers may have a cross-sectional area which varies according to the quantity of fluid flowing between the header and an individual tube group and they may be constructed for spiral fluid supply and discharge.
