1330868 Tubular heat exchangers; tube supports L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 12 Nov 1970 [13 Nov 1969 9 July 1970 (2)] 53992/70 Heading F4S A heat exchanger consists of a plurality of layers of tube 10 coiled helically around a core 1, the tubing being supported and maintained in position on the core by radially extending flanges 28, 29 of collars 26, 26<SP>1</SP> which correspond in number to the number of tube layers and are disposed concentrically around the core. As shown, straight tube lengths at the ends of the tube coils are received in notches 32 cut in the collar flanges, sealing means 38 being provided. Further tube supporting members 21 recessed as shown to accommodate the tube turns, may be secured to the collar flanges 28. In an apparatus described (Figs. 1 and 2) for heat exchange between cryogenic fluids and in which the tubes 10 are contained in a generally upright shell (50), the tubes 10 form two tube groups (10a, 10b) for first and second cryogenic fluids flowing one through each tube group. A third cryogenic fluid in diphasic form flows into the lower end (51) of the shell where the vapour separates out and flows upwardly over the tubes. Some of this vapour passes up through feed pipes 34 to entrain the liquid phase. Holes 35 are provided in the flanges of the tube supporting collars 26, 26<SP>1</SP>, &c. to permit passage therethrough of the vapour.
