Abstract

737,911. Tubular heat-exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN. Sept. 19, 1950 [Aug. 8, 1950], No. 22991/50. Class 64 (3). A heat-exchanger comprising tubes 3 provided with secondary heating surface in the form of heat conducting wire, is characterized in that the wire serves also to hold together a group of the tubes as a bundle and simultaneously to space adjacent tubes apart. Preferably, the tubes of the bundle are disposed in layers aiound a core comprising a single wired tube 1, or a group of tubes bound together by a wire coil, Fig. 12 (not shown) ; alternatively, the core may comprise a solid bar. Each layer of tubes is secured in position by a helicallywound wire 11 as in Figs. 5 and 8, showing alternative constructions. The tubes may be grooved to receive the wires. Each layer of tubes may alternatively be encompassed by a plurality of wire helices which may be spaced one from the other by forming each helix with ridges, Figs. 13, 14 (not shown). A wire coil may be provided within each tube, Fig. 11 (not shown). The tube bundle carrying a fluid to be heated or cooled extends between headers and may be exposed to the atmosphere (Fig. 8) or enclosed by a casing 8 (Fig. 5) through which a second fluid flows. The casing may be double walled to prevent heat losses. A plurality of tube bundles may be interconnected. The invention is said to be applicable to apparatus for use in refrigeration, foi heating hot water and for the cooling of oil.
