Abstract
1,049,267. Tubular heat exchangers. MCQUAY Inc. May 4, 1965, No. 18744/65. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises two multi-turn tubular coils 10, 110 having their. respective turns 13, 113 interposed with each other and interconnected in heat exchange relation. by means of fins 60 spaced longitudinally along the runs and contacting the outer surfaces of the coils 10, 110. The two coils are enclosed in a casing 61-59, separate fluids flow through the respective coils and heat is transferred between the fluids through the fins 60. The turns. 13 of each coil include two parallel runs 14,. 15 staggered in relation to each other and parallel to the runs 114, 115 of the other coil 110 and are connected at their extremities by return bends 21, 16. The return bends 16 at one end of the run 14 being integral.with the .runs 14, 15 whilst at the other end, the ends of the runs 14, 15 are swaged to accept the return bends 21, the joints so formed being soldered together. The coils are arranged in two banks 11, 12 or 111, 112 the respective coils being connected by means of conduits 25, 133 between the.upper and lower.coils. in the respective banks. Where one of the fluids is a coolant, such as water, the cooling effect on the other coil may be augmented by a fan unit (Fig. 6, not shown) which is attached by means of brackets 141 to one wall 142 of a easing 154 to pass air over the coils 10, 110, the casing 154 comprises end plates 51, 52 to support the coils and front, back, top and bottom panels to enclose the heat exchanger. The respective coils may be formed of similar or different diameter tubes.
