Abstract

467,420. Radiators for aircraft &c. BELAIEFF, J. F., DELANEY, C. T., and GALLAY, Ltd. Dec. 14, 1935, No. 34758. [Class 29] A liquid cooler, e.g. for cooling the lubricating-oil of an aircraft engine, comprises groups of air-cooled tubes b, g, of different diameters connected between headers c, one of which is provided with an inlet d and the other with a valved relief pipe f and an outlet pipe e. When the oil is cold the pressure in the cooler rises and the oil passes through the relief pipe f, while during normal operation the oil flows in series through the groups of tubes from the inlet to the outlet pipe. As the oil warms after being cooled the air passing over the tubes g warms the oil in the smaller tubes b and promotes now therethrough. The groups of tubes may be formed as independent units and then assembled together.
