Abstract
424,629. Plate heat - exchangers. HEPWORTH, F., Summerfield, Waterloo Road, South Yardley, Birmingham. July 5, 1934, No. 19025 /33. [Class 64 (iii)] A hollow plate for use, e.g. in the cooling of the lubricating-oil or circulating water of an internal-combustion engine of, e.g. a motor vehicle, comprises plates 1, 3 secured together by welding &c., and provided with rows of projections or indentations 7 of pyramidal or other form and of a width greater than that of the fluid passages between them. Inlet and outlet pipes 5 are provided for the oil &c. The plate may be provided with fins and secured to the crank-case of the engine. In a modification having cylindrical projections 10, Fig. 6, the plate 13 is formed by the crankcase. The hollow plate may be used for heating purposes by passing steam or hot water therethrough.
