Abstract

411,199. Cooling cylinders. ELLOR, J. E., Grandell, South Drive, Chain Lane, Mickleover, Derby. Dec. 28, 1932, No. 36675. [Class 7 (ii).] The liquid level in the hotwell c<1> of the aircooled condenser b of an evaporative cooling system is maintained constant by a float valve g which controls the admission of relatively cool liquid from a box e. The box communicates through orifices f with the spaces d<4>, Fig. 4, of radiators d disposed on opposite sides of the hotwell and having spaces d<3> to which the liquid is supplied through the branches d<2> of a pipe d<1> connected to the liquid tank a<1> of the engine cooling system. The mixed liquid and vapour flow into the tank and the liquid is returned to the engine by a pump a<3>, while the vapour passes through the pipe b<2> to the sections of the condenser from which the condensate flows through a slot c into the hotwell and is returned to the engine by a pump c<3>. The slot c is of such a size that it is always sealed with condensate to prevent the passage of uncondensed vapour into the hotwell which is provided with a discharge duct containing a removable filter j<2>.
