Cylinders, cooling. - In a cooling system in which water or other liquid from the cylinder jacket is driven off in the form of steam or vapour to a condenser from which it returns to the jacket, the pressure, in the jacket being higher than that in the condenser, means is provided independent of the circulation through the condenser for circulating the contents of the jacket. In one form, Fig. 1, the water jacket a is provided with a spring-loaded valve e and a pipe c<1> leading to the space d in the condenser below the radiator d<2>, at the top of which is a valve d<3> opening into the atmosphere on a slight pressure. Water from the lower part d<1> is returned to the jacket a by a pipe c<2> and pump c, the outlet c<3> of which preferably leads to the pump b for circulating the water in the jacket through the conduit b<1>. In a modification, the pump b is omitted and the water is circulated by leading the outlet pipe of the pump c to a nozzle in the conduit b<1>.
