Abstract

639,136. Cooling radiators for aircraft. OLIN INDUSTRIES, Inc. April 24, 1947, No. 10968. Convention date, May 4, 1946. [Class 64(iii)] An oil-cooling radiator comprises a stack of units 10, 11, 12, each unit consisting of parallel tubes united at their ends to form headers and surrounded by a shell, the units being interconnected by manifolds 13, 14, containing valves which permit the oil to flow through the units either in series or in parallel. The valves 33 and 36, Fig. 3, are spring-loaded and open when the oil pressure rises (i.e. as the oil temperature falls) to change the operation from series to parallel flow. The spaces between the shells of the several units are closed by rubber-band seals 52 surrounded by clamps 51.
