Abstract
527,018. Coolingsystems and radiators for aircraft. ELLOR, J. E. March 16, 1939. No. 8476. [Class 64 (iii)] In a liquid-cooled aircraft engine; a header tank 13 connected at 14 close to the coolantoutlet from the engine jacket is also connected by a single-pipe 15 to one side of a horse-shoe shaped radiator 20 round the bottom of the engine; and a single outlet pipe 17 from the other side of the radiator returns coolant to the inlet of the water jacket. A byepass 21 in the coolant circulation is formed integrally or contiguously with the radiator shell and has a thermally-controlled valve 22 on the inlet pipe, so that water passes through the matrix or the byepass. The radiator is placed in an air tunnel having a diverging inlet 25 and a converging outlet. The header tank and radiator are mounted on the engine.
