Abstract

642,312. Cooling cylinders. ROUY, A. L. M. A. March 12,1947, No. 6939. [Class 7(ii)] An internal-combustion engine in which the engine cylinder 20, Fig. 1, is provided with vanes 21 which contact with a tight fit a wall 21a located outwardly of the vanes to form a hollow helical channel 22 for circulating cooling liquid therethrough, the pitch of the helix progressively increasing from the lower to the upper end of the cylinder or vice versa. The engine exhaust valve may be cooled by surrounding its seat with a coiled tube through which the cooling liquid flows. In Fig. 3, a number of engine cylinders 24 are shown with their water, jacket inlets and outlets connected to the engine radiator 30 whilst a water pump 29 is connected in a conduit 27 which joins the water jacket inlets together.
