Abstract

263,701. Russell, H. H. Aug. 17, 1926. Exhaust silencers.-A silencer comprises an inner expansion chamber 1 connected at 2 to the exhaust pipe, an outer chamber 3 surrounding the inner one and communicating therewith by way of openings 4, and an outlet conduit 5 enclosed by a jacket 7 connected by openings 9 with the chamber 3 and by openings 8 with the conduit 5, communication between the chamber 3 and the conduit 5 being controlled by a butterfly or other valve 6. A baffle 11 is provided in the jacket 7, and the conduit 5 preferably terminates in a fish-tail outlet 10.
