Abstract

499,368. Exhaust-silencers. KRUPP GERMANIAWERFT AKT.-GES., F. July 19, 1938, No. 21373. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1937. [Class 7 (ii)] An exhaust-silencer for operation with two or more internal-combustion engines comprises silencer chambers, one for each engine, arranged in series in a common casing, so that the exhaust pipe of each engine passes through or into all the chambers. The Figure shows two silencer chambers c, d, one for each of two engines, the exhaust pipes a, a<1> and b, b<1> of which pass through or into both chambers, communicating therewith through openings h. The exhaust passes from the pipe a to a<1> and from b to b<1>. The walls of the chambers c, d may be perforated, the space between them and the surrounding casing e being filled with glass wool or other soundabsorbing material.
