Abstract

435,423. Exhaust and like silencers. GOLLOP, B. H., 75, Sadler Road, Keresley, Coventry. May 11, 1934, No. 14263. [Class 7 (ii)] The gases to be silenced are passed through substantially triangular ducts formed by the insertion of a corrugated member 19 in an annular passage formed between members 12, 18 which extend between expansion chambers 23, 25. The ends of the cylinder 18 are closed by plates 20 so that gases entering at 15 into the expansion chamber 23 must pass through the corrugations into the next expansion chamber 25. The gases may then pass through other corrugated members to other expansion chambers 24, as shown in Fig. 1, before issuing at 14. The plates 20 may be perforated as indicated at 21, Fig. 4, and the member 18 at 22. The corrugations may be inclined or helical, instead of straight. The amount by which the inlet pipe 15 projects into the silencer may be varied, and the projecting end may be perforated. There may be a second corrugated member arranged inside the member 18, and the corrugations may vary as regards pitch and depth.
