Abstract

268,085. Mortell, H. R. Jan. 29, 1926. Exhaust-silencers. - A silencer comprises a casing A containing a number of discs B having staggered openings b<3> and inclined at similar angles, substantially less or greater than a right angle, to the axis of the casing. The discs may be parallel to each other or alternate discs may be inclined in opposite directions. The discs are threaded on a square or other rod C and are spaced apart by distance pieces b, b<1>, integral with the discs, or by separate distance pieces. A perforated cap F may be provided at the outlet end, and the openings b<3> may be notches in the edges of the discs. The casing A may be the exhaust pipe or a separate tube attachable to the exhaust pipe.
