584,212. Cooling systems for engines. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D., GREENLY, K. H., and MARCELL, R. C. Dec. 15, 1944, No. 25169. [Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A cooling liquid circuit for an engine designed to assist the operation of the circulating pump comprises an engine A, radiator H, pump C and a header tank B from which water flows by gravity and is drawn through a pipe F by a venturi injector E situated in a pipe D on the suction side of the pump, and supplied with water from the radiator. The venturi may be supplied with water from the delivery side of the pump, but in either case it draws water from the header and the water travels from the venturi to the suction side of the pump. The venturi may comprise a nozzle situated in the throat of the venturi; the water from the header entering the annulus round the nozzle, or it may comprise a constriction in the tube having a number of holes in the walls of the tube where its diameter is least, the whole being enclosed in a cylindrical sleeve into which water from the header flows.
