Abstract
549,097. Cooling systems for internal combustion engines. BURRIDGE, A. P. W. March 7, 1942, No. 3001. [Class 64 (iii)] To prevent freezing in an engine cooling system, the water is drawn in frosty weather from the system into an auxiliary tank 21 by an electrically driven pump 24 and is returned by gravity through a valve 23, or, when the tank is below the engine, the water is withdrawn by gravity and returned by an electrically driven pump. The pump may be controlled by a float or thermally operated switch. The tank may be provided with an immersion heater.
