Abstract

435,707. Spray carburetters. JACOBY, H. E., 9, Hofstrasse, Wetzikon, and NUSSLI, H., 9, Bahnhofstrasse, Hinwil, both in Switzerland. March 26, 1934, No. 9402. [Class 7 (iii)] [See also Group XXXV] For starting up internal-combustion engines a control device 8, 9, 10 is provided which automatically brings in an auxiliary carburetter jet 14 when the engine is started. Closure of the engine switch 17 and starting motor switch 18 energizes the electromagnet 13 to attract the armature 12 and force the pistons 9 and 10 down against the spring 7 thus allowing pipes a and b to communicate and opening pipe c to the atmosphere. Turning off switch 18 de-energizes 13 unless the engine is cold when circuit is still completed through thermostat 19 until a satisfactory temperature is reached when switch 20 opens. When pipe c is open to atmosphere the vacuum in the float chamber 1 is reduced so as to allow free flow through the jets. To render the engine capable of work at maximum permissible load when cold, the control device may be provided with a third piston attached to the shaft 8 so that when 13 is energized this piston permits connection to atmosphere of a pipe line led from cylinder 11 to a second pipe line which on one side leads to a low pressure cylinder containing a piston linked to the throttle and on the other side leads to a regulator operatively connected to the accelerator pedal as described in Specification 435,471. When various fuels are used, the control device may effect the switching over from one fuel to another or the cutting off of an undesired fuel.
