Abstract

631,283. Starting prime-movers. CARTER CARBURETOR CORPORATION. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21591. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1941. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVII] The circuit of an electrically-driven pump 2 delivering fuel to the carburetter 5 of an internal-combustion engine includes a switch 38 operated by oil pressure from an engine-driven pump 43, and a hand-operated starter switch 45 controls the operation of a starting-motor 22. Operation of switch 45 closes connections 30, 32 to energize a solenoid 28, closing a switch 27 in the circuit of the motor 22, and also closes contacts 30, 47 whereby the switch 38, which is open at starting, is short-circuited and the pump circuit is completed from battery 6 through connection 29, ignition switch 48, and connections 30, 47, 35 and earth 36. After starting, the switch 45 is released, but the oil pressure is then sufficient to close the switch 38. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also described another embodiment in which the pump is connected to a battery through one switch operated by oil pressure and another operated by engine suction. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
